Client Reviews

Purchased this head unit to replace an ailing Pioneer USB. Sound good quality is considerably improved and function set is wonderful! Display is active and font is smaller than my old a single so you see the full track names and so on. and they do not get truncated. HPF and LPF operate as expected and the cutover slope alternatives are handy. 7 band EQ was also good to have. Sony could have included the case for the face plate even though as it was not included nor could I identify a Sony 1 to obtain on line. Bluetooth operates good also and mic is fantastic quality.

I installed this unit in my 2006 Mini Cooper with no problems.
The superior:
Quite good sound
Excellent connectivity to iPhone, USB memory, Bluetooth, Pandora on my iPhone,
Great audio setup solutions
I had no problems with the unit remembering where it was on any of the USB solutions when powering back up.
The quirky:
The major multifunction knob is a royal discomfort. Trying to press the middle (as opposed to up/down/left/perfect) is tricky, and just about impossible if the road has bumps.
After I turn on the ignition, the unit defaults to becoming off my last Alpine unit remembered whether it was off or on.
The worst function: I also got the Sony satellite receiver and interface for Sirius, and the interface to the display is terrible!. For the iPod, iPhone, or USB, there are 3 lines of display - for the Sirius satellite, there's only one particular line! So, you can only see either the channel, the partial name of the channel, the artist, or the song. You can only pick one particular at a time! And to get from one particular channel to one other (with out presets) you will need to hold the multifunction knob to the left or right. The channels advance about 1 per second! It takes ages to tune the radio this way. I am wondering if the XM receiver would have been far better or if yet another satellite receiver would be far better.. It's doable I am missing some setup choice, but I doubt it.
So, my guidance is remain away from this unit if you're going to use the Sony Sirius satellite receiver.
